I have long been interested in the power of natural healing. I was born and raised in the big city of Tehran in Iran where I loved spending time with my elders. From childhood, I was exposed to traditional remedies and herbs by my family. I remember my mother and grandmother always having herbs on hand, and so quickly they could make teas for us if we were feeling unwell. Just as I was stumbling out of adolescence into adulthood, I moved to Canada to build a better future for myself. This was a very impactful time in my life as I spoke not one word of the English language, but I was so eager to learn. The beautiful mountains and ocean took me aback and soon I fell in love with Vancouver as my new home. I saw the great opportunities that were available to me, and I was incredibly driven to pursue my dream of studying about the natural world that I had come to love.
As I completed my undergraduate studies in Biology at UBC, I experienced a challenge in my health caused by an infection that led me on a search for resolve. I quickly experienced the limitations of conventional medicine, which inspired me to explore the holistic, mind-body-emotion approach offered by Traditional Chinese Medicine. Through acupuncture and the application of TCM’s dietary and life-style recommendations, I healed completely and achieved a deep connection with my physical body and learned to practice mindfulness.
My personal experience inspired me become a Registered Acupuncturist with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of British Columbia (CTCMA) and I further attained a Doctorate in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) from the College of TCM in Vancouver. During my studies, I was enamoured by the depth of this ancient medicine, and I am constantly amazed at how powerful it can be.
Early in my practice, I saw the great potential that acupuncture had for pain management. I furthered my knowledge in this fielded by becoming a Certified Balance Method Acupuncturist. To both my patient’s and my own amazement, this method works in a wonderous and almost magical way; it allows patients to experience rapid and effective relief, often noticing improvements while still on the treatment table. With this method being especially effective for pain management and internal medicine disorders, it is a core part of my clinical practice.
I also see the great value of acupuncture for women’s health, infertility and pregnancy support. I have enjoyed working with many couples on the path to growing their family.
I am very motivated to build knowledge, and I am constantly educating myself in ways to finesse my practice. I am deeply interested in the application of acupuncture to address mental health. Currently, I am enrolled in a two-year fellowship with Dr. Yvonne Farrell, DAOM, L. Ac., focusing on the treatment of psycho-emotional diseases. I am dedicated to learning skills that uncover the potential of acupuncture to improve the lives of those suffering from mental and emotional illness and help restore balance in their lives.
I enjoy using a variety of techniques—including acupuncture, cupping, ear seeds, electrostimulation, and nutritional guidance. My aim is to make you feel calm and comfortable, listen to your history and health concerns and apply the most appropriate treatment for your needs. My goal is to have you leave your treatment feeling relaxed and revitalized, and one (or one hundred) steps closer to reaching your optimal health.
I am passionate about wellness not only on the individual level, but on the collective level within the community. I am so pleased to share that I have been selected as a member of the Mayor’s Advisory Roundtable for the City of Port Coquitlam, where I am able to contribute my health and wellness expertise to local initiatives.
Outside of my clinical practice, I maintain my commitment to wellness through cooking with fresh, wholesome ingredients, and getting in daily movement by walking and riding my bike. Above all, I love to spend time with my family and watch my daughter find her own path in this world.
I look forward to meeting you, and helping you achieve your health goals, every step of the way.
